College of Arts and Sciences

The Master of Science in Psychology offers students a unique opportunity to develop a broad foundation in psychology and enhance their knowledge in an area of interest by choosing one of the following specializations: addictions, applied behavioral analysis, or general psychology. The curriculum blends the rich, academic tradition of psychology with exciting, contemporary applications of the science. The degree is designed to help prepare graduates to pursue career opportunities as a specialist or supervisor in mental health, social services, or health care organizations. Positions may also be available in employee-assistance, research, or educational settings.*

School of Health Sciences

The Master of Public Health is designed to help students develop a broad foundation in public health and the administrative, ethical, and professional skills needed to apply public health principles to health education and communication programs. Students can specialize their degree to meet educational and career goals by choosing one of the following specializations: epidemiology, health education, or public health program development. The degree is designed to help prepare graduates to pursue a range of leadership and managerial positions in governmental, nonprofit, and private organizations in the public health industry, and serves as a solid foundation for further academic pursuits.†

The Master of Health Care Administration blends flexible online coursework with valuable on-ground administrative experience through a required externship. Students are taught to compare theoretical health care principles essential to leadership positions and design effective strategies based on leadership and management concepts within the health care industry. The program is designed to help prepare graduates to seek leadership and management positions in governmental, nonprofit, and private organizations,* and serves as a solid foundation for further academic pursuits.

The Bachelor of Science in Public Health is designed to help prepare graduates to serve as public health professionals or as advocates for the development of healthy individuals, organizations, and communities. The program teaches students to confront community health issues, collect and analyze health data, and create plans that promote healthier lifestyles and environments. An advanced start version of the degree is available for students with existing college credits.‡

The Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration examines the principles and practices of health care in relation to administration, management, law, and economics. Students are taught how to handle health care-related research, think critically and problem solve, and apply management principles to team building and collaborative decision making. The program is designed for those individuals who want to serve as health care professionals or pursue supervisory roles industry wide.

School of Business

In the Master of Science in Management’s human resources specialization, students study human resources development (HRD) management processes from a strategic HR perspective. The curriculum analyzes theories and practices as they relate to human and organizational development and examines major internal and external factors that affect employee behavior. The program teaches students how to define the evaluation methods used in HRD, and identify and describe basic workplace competencies.

The bachelor’s and associate’s degrees in business administration offer students a new way to personalize their degree. Career focus areas are groupings of courses designed to prepare students with specialized knowledge and skills in a chosen field. Career focus areas allow students to focus their elective choices on an area of study that best fits their desired career path.* Kaplan University is pleased to introduce the project management and new media/Internet marketing career focus areas for the bachelor’s degree program, and the office management career focus area for the associate’s degree program. Students can also choose from human resources, sales manager, retail management, and more.

Bachelor of Science in Business Administration students now can choose to complete the accelerated Master of Business Administration option. Leveraging strong undergraduate courses toward completion of the graduate degree, the option is designed to help high-potential students foster leadership, innovation, and corporate social responsibility in a global context. School of Information Systems and Technology

In the Master of Science in Information Technology’s project management specialization, students focus on strategic project management with an emphasis on planning, executing, and controlling phases of a project life cycle. Students utilize current software to achieve project goals and objectives. The curriculum explores the principles, tools, and techniques for controlling project cost and scheduling. It also addresses how to analyze project risk, quality, and legal and ethical considerations in contracting and procurement. Students study to develop skills to increase the bottom line for organizations in a variety of industries.

In the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology’s project management emphasis area, students study to gain knowledge of the skills and processes needed to select, initiate, and plan a project. The curriculum addresses how to create a project charter, develop project scope statements, develop the project schedule and budget, and analyze risk planning. In addition, students focus on how to manage project resources, develop the project team, conduct procurements, measure project performance, control work results, and maintain professional responsibility.

Bachelor of Science in Information Technology’s information security and forensics emphasis is designed for individuals who want to pursue a career in the information security or computer forensics fields. Students will have the opportunity to study how to analyze forensic data, investigate system vulnerabilities, and implement solutions that provide protection against security attacks. Graduates could pursue a career as an information security analyst, network security analyst, or computer forensics analyst.

The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology’s new media/Internet marketing emphasis area focuses on various ways to utilize leading-edge media to promote growth and accessibility of products and services. Students study the fundamentals of doing business on the Internet, including key marketing techniques and management, and how to create strategies for effective advertising.

The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology’s health informatics emphasis area helps prepare students with the skills needed to design and develop health care IT application components. Students examine data modeling and management for the twenty-first century health care industry. The curriculum reviews the wide variety of health care information available, focusing on quality, laws, regulations, and standards.

School of Graduate Education

The Master of Science in Higher Education’s online college teaching specialization is designed to prepare students to teach in the rapidly growing world of online education. Students who complete this specialization may already have (or be in the process of obtaining) the subject-matter expertise needed to pursue postsecondary teaching positions in their field. The Master of Science in Higher Education with the online college teaching specialization teaches students the special knowledge, skills, and approaches needed for success in online learning environments. The specialization courses emphasize adult learning theory, distance learning technologies and pedagogies, characteristics of online learners, special considerations for assessing student learning outcomes in the online environment, and current developments and trends in online education.

School of Legal Studies

The Bachelor of Science in Political Science teaches students how government and society are interconnected on every level—local, regional, national, and global. Students will assess the organization and structure of both the legislative and administrative processes of government; study and apply techniques that could promote political leadership and advocacy for social and political change; and analyze relationships between the law and political organizations, economics, and political power, and cultural and political identity. An advanced start version of the degree is available for students with existing college credits.
